Dad is 62

Sabbatical is becoming a more distant memory. I’m back at work and in the swing of things again. We just announced the availability of the project I’m working on: Flex 2. It’s only in the alpha stage, but we’re releasing it on the web via Macromedia Labs. Also the Department of Justice approved our merger with Adobe, so the deal should close anytime soon now. It dawned on me on the ride home, I commute 19,000 miles a year. It’s about 40 miles from Mountain View to downtown San Francisco. Most of it is by train, where I am now, but that’s a lot of miles.

My dad turned 62 today. We had a great conversation with my sister and niece via Macromedia Breeze using web cams. It was nice to be able to have a face to face conversation
with the rest of the family. It was strange at first, but now that I’m used to it, using the web cameras to see the other person is a great way to stay in touch.

A few weekends ago, several folks from my church got together to raise diapers for the EHC Lifebuilders, a homeless shelter in Santa Clara County. I got to stand in front of a supermarket asking folks for donations. I never realized what it’s like to raise support in an unstructured environment like that! We were at the store from 8 to 3. In total we raised 41,000 diapers.
